Terms and conditions: IR35 Calculator

What you can expect from us, and what we expect from you.

Last updated: June 2026

Nobody enjoys reading terms and conditions. We get that. So we have written ours in plain English — no walls of legal text, no confusing clauses buried at the bottom. Just a clear explanation of what you can expect from us and what we expect from you when you use this site.

Who we are

We run the IR35 Calculator website, a free tool designed to help UK contractors and freelancers estimate their take-home pay inside and outside IR35. We are not a law firm, an accountancy practice, or a regulated financial adviser.

Please contact us at hello@ir35calculator.co.uk if you have any questions about these terms.

Acceptance of these terms

By using the IR35 Calculator and this website, you agree to be bound by these terms and conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, the "last updated" date at the top of this page will change. Continued use of the site after any update means you accept the revised terms.

What the IR35 calculator actually does

The calculator gives you an estimate of your take-home pay based on the figures you enter. It is a general guidance tool, nothing more. The results it produces are not financial advice, tax advice, or legal advice.

The figures are based on the current UK tax year's publicly available tax rates, thresholds and National Insurance bands. They are liable to change, and the calculator may not always reflect the very latest HMRC rates. You should speak to a qualified accountant or tax adviser who understands your specific situation before making any financial or contracting decisions.

What the calculator cannot tell you

  • It cannot confirm your actual IR35 status. For that you need HMRC's Check Employment Status for Tax tool or a professional assessment.
  • It cannot account for every personal tax circumstance (student loans, pension contributions over certain thresholds, and so on).
  • It cannot replace tailored professional advice.

The calculator is a starting point, not a final answer.

No professional advice

This is important, so we want to be direct about it. Nothing on this website — including the calculator results, the articles, the guides, or any other content — should be taken as professional tax, legal or financial advice. IR35 is a complex area of UK tax law and individual circumstances vary widely.

We strongly recommend that you speak to a qualified IR35 specialist or accountant before acting on any of the content you read here.

Accuracy of information

We work hard to keep the content on this site accurate and up to date. But we cannot guarantee that everything is always correct, complete or current.

UK tax legislation changes. HMRC guidance changes. We do our best to reflect those changes promptly, but there may be a gap between a change happening and our updating the site.

If you spot something that looks wrong or out of date, please get in touch and we will look into it.

Limitation of liability

We provide this website and the IR35 Calculator free of charge, as a helpful resource. Because of that, and because the tool is for general guidance only, our liability is limited. We are not responsible for:

  • Any financial loss you suffer as a result of relying on the calculator results
  • Any decisions you make based on the content on this site
  • Errors or omissions in the information we publish
  • Any interruption or downtime of the website
  • Any third-party websites we link to

This does not affect any rights you have under UK consumer law that cannot be excluded by contract.

Intellectual property

All content on this website, including text, the calculator tool, layout and design, is owned by us unless stated otherwise. You may not copy, reproduce or distribute any of it without our written permission.

You are welcome to quote short extracts for personal use or reference, provided you link back to the original page on this site.

How you may use this site

You are welcome to use this website for personal, non-commercial purposes. That means using the calculator to estimate your own take-home pay, reading the content to understand IR35, and sharing pages with colleagues or friends.

You may not:

  • Scrape or copy the site content in bulk
  • Use the site in any way that could damage, overload or interfere with it
  • Use automated tools to access the calculator at scale
  • Attempt to gain unauthorised access to any part of the site

We reserve the right to block access for anyone who misuses the site.
